19 February 2025, Rome, Italy – H.E. Hon. Enaam Mayara (Morocco), President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), convened the 54th statutory Meeting of the PAM Political Bureau to address key institutional matters and strategic initiatives shaping the Assembly’s agenda for 2025 and beyond.
Elected Bureau Members from France, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Palestine, Portugal and Qatar attended the meeting, as well as Hon. Maryam bin Theneya (UAE), President-elect of the Women Parliamentary Forum (WPF), staff of the PAM Member Parliaments, guests, honorary members, and senior officials of the PAM Secretariat.
The discussions focused on the finalization of the program for PAM’s 19th Plenary Session, to be held on 20-21 February, graciously hosted by the Italian Parliament in Rome and the election of the PAM Presidency and Bureau Members for the biennium 2025-2026. The Bureau also reviewed official communications from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Andorra.
A brief update from the Presidents of the Standing Committees provided insights into the latest activities and initiatives across PAM’s priority areas of work. Additionally, the meeting advanced preparations for the 3rd Edition of the PAM Marrakesh Economic Forum, scheduled for 23-24 May 2025, which will serve as a strategic platform to promote economic integration and sustainable development across the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
Advancing gender equality and women’s parliamentary engagement was a central focus, with reference being made to the handover ceremony of the WPF Presidency on the second day of the 19th PAM Plenary Session, from Hon. Joana Lima (Portugal), President of the WPF, to Hon. Maryam bin Theneya (UAE), President-elect of the WPF. Discussions included the upcoming sessions of the PAM Women Parliamentary Forum in Abu Dhabi, UAE at the end of June 2025; as well as in Tirana, Albania, in spring 2026; and in Paris, France in 2027.
In addition, the Bureau reviewed administrative matters, including financial updates and the 2025-2026 calendar of activities.//
