The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) and its Member States observe on March 21st of every year the MEDITERRANEAN DAY, as decided at its 3rd Plenary Session, held in Morocco in 2008.
In line with the activities of the Assembly and the constant evolving threat of the global warming, the topic chosen by the PAM Bureau for this year’s, the 14th edition-ever of the MEDITERRANEAN DAY is:
“Protecting our Planet and our Homes, the role of parliaments”
It is not new information that our Planet is currently facing global warming, the rise of temperature has already been the cause of droughts and a diminution of crops causing a decrease in agro-production. Global warming affects each and every aspect of the environment, habitat and biodiversity, and in particular our Mediterranean Sea
PAM is convinced that the fight against Global warming requires a common response, solidarity, cooperation, as well as strong leadership, responsibility and collaboration in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
During the last month we have been facing daily, horrific, news about the failed Russian invasion of Ukraine. This aggression further affects the environment, ecology and global warming, by pushing backwards the COP agenda.
For this reason, the 2021 edition of the MEDITERRANEAN DAY is dedicated to the awareness and the urgent status of Global Warming and especially the protection of the Mediterranean Sea, an important exchange point between three continents.
Since the beginning of 2022, PAM, many schools and the National Parliaments of the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region, have collaborated for our children to create artworks and raise the awareness of these situations and remind us of our duty to protect the lands, Sea, and the regions, which we call Home.
