PAM deploys an Election Observation Mission for the Egyptian Presidential Elections

 

10-12 December 2023, Cairo, Egypt- The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) deployed an Elections Observation Mission (EOM) to monitor the Presidential Elections in Egypt. The mission was conducted, following the invitation received from the Egyptian National Elections Authority (ENEA), as a result of the long-standing relations with Egypt, a founding Member of the Assembly, and as it was already the case for previous Parliamentary and Presidential Elections.

 

Accompanied by H.E. Hon. Abuel Enein, PAM President Emeritus and Deputy Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament, the delegation included senior delegates from Portugal, Italy, Libya, Morocco, and the PAM Secretariat.

 

Arriving in Cairo on 9 December, PAM delegates attended a comprehensive briefing, organized by the Egyptian National Elections Authority, which gathers more than 100 international observers, and provided detailed information about, among others, the preparations of the elections, electoral system, procedures to be implemented on election days, the candidates’ nomination process, and dispute resolution.

 

On 10-12 December, PAM delegates were able to visit polling stations in the governorates of Giza, Cairo, and Alexandria. No irregularities were reported during the observation, and the positive atmosphere, and efficient organization of the electoral committees, facilitated the unfolding of the voting.

 

At the conclusion of their mission, PAM delegates thanked the Egyptian authorities for their support, as well as the Egyptian delegation to PAM for the warm welcoming and assistance.

 

On departure, PAM delegates also extended their appreciation to other State institutions, representatives of political parties and r of civil society organizations for their cooperation throughout the mission. //
