PAM Inaugurates the Centre for Global Studies (CGS) in San Marino

2 May 2024, San Marino - The inauguration of the Centre for Global Studies (CGS) marked a significant milestone in the establishment of the Assembly’s own strategic think tank capability, also to serve. the international community at large. The Centre is housed in the historical building of Palazzo Masi in San Marino.

 

The ceremony was preceded by an audience in the Governmental Palace with the Heads of State of San Marino H.E Alessandro Rossi and H.E Milena Gasperoni. The event was conducted in conjunction with delegates from the Council of Europe "EUROMED PROTECT-NET - Euro-Mediterranean Forum for Disaster Risk Governance, Health Preparedness, and Networking Advancement", organized by the European Centre for Disaster Medicine (CEMEC). PAM was pleased to host the Forum at the new CGS premises.

 

High-level delegates from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean attended the ceremony. Theyincluded H.E. Amb. Dr. Abdulsalam AlMadani (UAE), PAM Roving Ambassador for the GCC and Chairman of the PAM/CGS; Hon. Gennaro Migliore (Italy), President Emeritus of PAM and Director of the PAM/CGS; Amb. Hon. Majallie Whbee (Israel), PAM Roving Ambassador; and senior staff of the PAM Secretariat

 

In their  address to the audience, PAM delegates underscored the pivotal role of San Marino as the host of both the PAM Centre for International Studies and now the CGS. They stressed the significance of this new establishment in fostering research and collaboration, highlighting its involvement in various projects addressing critical issues. These include the malicious use of AI and innovative technologies, CBRNe threats, and the support of UNSG-led endeavors aimed at enhancing the functionality and efficacy of multilateral international institutions.

 

In this regard, and looking ahead, the Assembly is actively involved in preparatory consultations  for the UN Summit of the Future, which seeks to reform international institutions and rebuild trust in global governance. PAM/CGS will play  a key  role in promoting and organizing  high-level parliamentary initiatives to facilitate and monitor the implementation of the recommendations arising from the Summit. //

 

Furthermore, CEMEC President, Prof. Roberto Mugavero, at the inauguration of the CGS premises, highlighted the model collaboration between the Council of Europe/CEMEC and PAM, reinforced by the memorandum of understanding signed in June 2023. This partnership has catalyzed the launch of numerous international research projects and educational programs, emphasizing the notable advancements in disaster preparedness and response capacities across the Euro-Mediterranean region. //
