PAM Secretary General, Amb. Sergio Piazzi, met with the Libyan Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Elhabib M A Alamin, in Malta, on 6 April 2017, to discuss reinforced co-operation with the Parliament of Libya. The present phase of the national reconciliation process was reviewed, including the positive developments represented by the three-partite approach recently agreed among the Presidential Council, the Parliament and the Reconciliation Committee.
The request to PAM to mobilise and provide assistance for capacity building at the Libyan Parliament was updated, including the organization of dedicated activities with the MPs in Tripoli and Tobruk. These will be carried out in full co-operation and in conjunction with the initiatives being carried out by the UN Special Representative and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, Mr. Martin Kobler, with whom the PAM delegation agreed future common efforts, last September at the UN General Assembly in New York.
The importance of co-operation with PAM was highlighted also in the light of the forthcoming consultations by PAM SG in New York next week, as well as the scheduled ministerial and inter-parliamentary meetings on security challenges in the Mediterranean, which will take place in Malta at the end of April.
