The House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, during its regular Plenary Session on Friday, March 23, has honoured the PAM Mediterranean Day 2018.
In a special address before the plenary, H.E. the President of the House, Mr. Demetris Syllouris, referred to the alarming dimension of irregular mass migration between the two shores of the Mediterranean, and its devastating consequences, as a result of the prolonged conflicts and political instability in a large part of the region.
The President, underlining the importance of human rights protection, both in countries of origin, as well as in the recipient countries, as a means to address the migration issue, urged the warring parties to terminate hostility acts and to engage in constructive dialogue, with the aim of reaching peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflicts.
Mr. Syllouris wished the consolidation of peace and security in the Mediterranean region, creating the conditions for prosperity and social progress, allowing to our region to reach its full potential as a space of political, economic and cultural cooperation.
