Cairo – 13 February 2022. H.E. the Minister of Endowments of Egypt, Prof. Gomm’a, invited PAM to attend the Conference of the Executive Council of Ministers of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in the Islamic World. PAM was represented by President Gennaro Migliore, President Emeritus Hon. Karim Darwish and Hon. Abou El Enein, PAM President Emeritus, who moderated the panel on “consolidating citizenship and supporting world peace”.
In his intervention, Hon. Migliore recalled that Dialogue, Respect, and Tolerance are guiding principles for PAM action. The Mediterranean is diverse, and good neighborly relations are essential. Politicians and religious leaders alike share a great responsibility.
In that regard, Hon. Abou El Enein indicated that “For many years, we have suffered from groups that spread religious and ideological extremism. We want good ideas with which we could address the world. We are gathering today to deliver a message to the whole world and the peoples”
Then, Hon. Karim Darwish added that “parliaments have continue to play an important role in consolidating the principles of citizenship through legislation that removes obstacles and difficulties”.
PAM PresidentMigliore also stated that “over the last decades, the international security landscape has been deteriorating, conflicts have become more complex or have crystallized, and the vicious cycle of poverty and institutional fragility decreases the resilience of societies and the hopes for peaceful resolutions. Climate Change is also a very important factor of insecurity”.
PAM will continue to work closely with its member states, national parliaments and representatives of the monotheistic religions to achieve a much needed stability and peace in the region. PAM President concluded that the Assembly “will continue to do so while serving as a key regional institution and in partnership with the international community at large. We must all add our voices to the peace agenda.”//
