4 October 2024, Dublin – Within the framework of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly 22nd Autumn Meeting, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) contributed to the Mediterranean Forum, which was dedicated to “The Situation in the Middle East”. PAM was represented by Hon. Tijana Davidovac, Member of the Serbian Delegation.
Held at the Convention Centre in Dublin, the OSCE PA Mediterranean Forum gathered more than 40 parliamentarians from some 20 countries and provided a platform for open discussions on the escalating conflict in the Middle East, with a focus on addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of the civilian population, as well as ending the conflict through collective diplomatic mobilization to achieve a political solution.
Hon. Davidovac delivered an address emphasizing the PAM’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
She highlighted PAM’s role as a channel for communication exchanges between Israeli and Palestinian parliamentary authorities, to advocate for a permanent ceasefire, the immediate release of all hostages, the protection of all civilians, the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the implementation of the Two-State Solution. Hon. Davidovac also expressed PAM full support to the countries, which are contributing to UNIFIL and its essential peacekeeping mandate.
Other participants in the Mediterranean Forum, including the Heads of parliamentary delegations from OSCE Mediterranean Partners for Cooperation, provided insights into the regional impacts and consequences of the conflict. Discussions centered on the need for collective action to de-escalate tensions and the importance of multilateral initiatives to restore stability and security in the Middle East.
PAM reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the OSCE PA and other international organizations, first and foremost the UN, to support peace efforts in the Middle East. Hon. Davidovac expressed PAM’s commitment, as agreed with the UN Secretary General, and already done in the past, to organizing a parliamentary conference, when the conditions are met, on the reconstruction of Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, to contribute to long-term peace and reconciliation processes in the region. //
