The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean is following with great concern the current
developments in the region, particularly the latest reports from Libya, where the situation is
considered as volatile, fluid and unpredictable. The Parliamentary Assembly of the
Mediterranean calls for the immediate and total restrain of all forms of violence and for the
respect of human rights and the protection of the civilian population.
In view of the dramatic evolution of the situation and its possible effects on the stability at the
national and regional level, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean is preparing a
number of field missions to the capital cities of the PAM member states in the areas concerned.
A line of communication for consultations and exchange of relevant information with senior
officials of the United Nations and the League of Arab States has been activated since the events
in the region escalated to the current level of serious apprehension.
A number of meetings are being held by the PAM Secretary General with Ambassadors of PAM
member states in order to constantly monitor the evolving state of affairs and to activate the
mechanisms offered by the PAM Parliamentary Diplomacy to support the actions undertaken by
the International Community to ensure a prompt resolution of the situation.
An extraordinary meeting of the PAM Bureau will be convened in the coming days to discuss
and adopt those measures deemed necessary to take full advantage of the tools offered by
Parliamentary Diplomacy and by the unique and consolidated network of contacts PAM has
establish in the region.
As provided for by the Statutes, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, through its
operative structures, is committed to its role to address issues of common concern to foster and

stability, and to promote peace and to also seek to unite the endeavors of the Mediterranean
