PAM commends diplomatic efforts of Egypt and other members to achieve and maintain a ceasefire in the Middle East and calls for reconstruction support

PAM joins the UN Security Council in recognizing the important role played by Egypt, and Jordan and Qatar, and other countries of the region to reach and maintain a cessation of military action in the Middle East.

PAM calls for the provision of immediate humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian civilian population, particularly in Gaza, as also underlined by Security Council members. PAM also supports the Secretary General’s call for the international community to work with the United Nations on developing an integrated, robust package of support for a swift, sustainable reconstruction and recovery.

PAM commends Egypt President’s pledge of 500 million dollars in aid funds to Palestine, which started with a medical aid shipment of 65 tons of surgical supplies as well as 26 trucks of food aid that have already reached the Palestinian territories.

PAM also applauds the reinforced Jordanian military medical assistance deployed to Gaza, the only functioning covid testing / vaccination facility operating the area, as well as the thirteen truckloads of cargo for UN agencies and their partners that entered Gaza on Friday 21 May and $18 million in aid allocated after the Israeli-Palestinian cease-fire went into effect.

PAM praises the allocated $18.6 million for the increasing humanitarian needs in Gaza, including $4.5 million from the United Nation’s Central Emergency Response Fund and $14.1 million from country-based pooled funds.

PAM will continue to monitor the humanitarian situation in the region and support all efforts aimed at reconstruction, and lasting peace and negotiations towards a Two State solution.//
