5-7 February 2025, Podgorica, Montenegro – Senior officials of the PAM Secretariat visited Montenegro at the kind invitation of the national Parliament and its delegation to the Assembly. Discussions focused on strengthening relations between PAM and Montenegro, as well as look into the necessary steps for the organization of the PAM 20th Plenary Session, in Podgorica in mid-2026.
On 6 February, the PAM delegation held bilateral meetings with H.E. Hon. Andrija Mandić, President of the Parliament of Montenegro; the delegation of Montenegro to PAM, led by Hon. Dejan Đurović, Head of the Delegation to PAM, and Hon. Jovan Subotić, and Hon. Nikola Rovčanin. The delegation also met separately with H.E. Hon. Nikolla Camaj, Vice-President of the Parliament of Montenegro, and H.E. Mrs. Simonida Kordić, Minister of Tourism of Montenegro.
Additionally, given the excellent relations between PAM and the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators (MEDREG), the delegation held very fruitful exchange with Mr. Branislav Prelević, the newly elected President of MEDREG.
During the meeting with H.E. Hon. Mandić, discussions revolved around Montenegro’s dynamic engagement with PAM. Recognizing Montenegro’s strategic significance within the broader Balkans—an area of priority for PAM—President Mandić reaffirmed his country’s commitment to aligning with EU foreign policy, underscoring the need for unity amid the evolving geopolitical landscape. Furthermore, he proposed to host the first Summit of Speakers of PAM Member Parliaments, on the occasion of the PAM 20th Plenary Session.
The discussion with the Montenegrin delegation also recorded the interest of the MPs to participate in upcoming PAM missions and highlighted opportunities for Montenegrin students to join PAM internship programs at the International Study Center in San Marino.
On her side, H.E. Mrs. Simonida Kordic, Minister of Tourism of Montenegro, presented the Destination Balkans project, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity while maintaining sustainable growth. The PAM delegates underscored the importance of quality tourism and welcomed her participation in the PAM 19th Plenary Session, where fruitful discussions on the topic will be held.
Later on, the same day, the PAM delegation met with Mr. Branislav Prelević, President of MEDREG, who outlined plans to engage further with the EU on key energy regulatory initiatives. The discussion also explored MEDREG’s strategic contribution to the upcoming PAM Marrakesh Economic Parliamentary Forum, scheduled next May, and kindly hosted by the Parliament of Morocco. //
