The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, following the incidents on Sunday 15 May 2011, along the borders between Israel, Lebanon and Syria, calls on all concerned to restrain from any form of provocation in order to avoid the escalation of tensions and involvement of civilians. PAM regrets the loss of lives and expresses its belief that a lasting and just settlement in the region can only be achieved through dialogue and good will.
PAM is fully conscious of the stalemate that the Arab-Israeli peace process has reached, and insists that all sides should work for a renewed effort to resume Israeli-Palestinian negotiations to ensure dignity and security for all, including a comprehensive peace project for the Middle East.
PAM will continue to dedicate the necessary efforts through its network of parliamentarians and through its dedicated Ad hoc Committee on the Middle East.
