A High level delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, lead by President Sen. Francesco Amoruso (Italy), is on a mission to the Vatican City for talks on issues related to peace and stability in the Mediterranean region.
The delegation is today participating to the weekly Papal audience. The parliamentarians will be also briefly received by H.H. Pope Francis for an exchange of views, particularly on the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Process, following the latest developments, namely the recent visit of His Holiness to Israel and the Prayer Event in the Vatican Gardens, which brought together Israeli President, Shimon Peres, and Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.
The PAM Delegation, on Thursday 12 June, 2014, will also meet H.E. Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States for the Holy See, with whom intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, cooperation between PAM and the Holy See in support of the Middle East Peace Process, the respect of religious minorities and the strengthening of human rights, will be discussed.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean has long established a fruitful collaboration with the Holy See, an Associate State to the Assembly, and representatives of the Vatican participate actively on a regular basis to PAM events, where the wellbeing of the Mediterranean citizens is at the top of the agenda.
The PAM Secretariat also briefs on a regular basis the Holy See on its strategic and focused initiatives aimed at supporting all those processes facilitating the solution to historical differences on one hand, and assisting in the achievement of the legitimate aspirations of the Mediterranean citizens.
