The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) welcomes the World Meeting for Peace, being held in Sarajevo on the initiative of the Italian Community of SantEgidio, particularly the Panel on the Mediterranean and its role as a meeting place for cultures and religions.

PAM has always been extremely committed through its Third Standing Committee on Dialogue among Civilisations and Human Rights on inter-cultural and inter-religious dialogue in the region and has also dedicated specific groups of Mediterranean parliamentarians to report on a number of issues. As for this year the 3rd Standing Committee will present, on the occasion of the 7th PAM Plenary Session (Malta 12-13 October 2012), a wide-ranging report on the importance of education in creating better citizens also capable to appreciate the wealth of other cultures in the area in a spirit of dialogue in full respect and understanding of the diversities that have contributed to the kaleidoscopic panorama of civilizations in the Mediterranean.

The International Conference in Sarajevo is promoted by the Community of Sant’Egidio, in close collaboration with the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Serbian Orthodox Patriarchate, the Archdiocese of Vrhbosna-Sarajevo and the Jewish Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The initiative is backed by the full support of all Institutions and Governments of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Religious Leaders of all faiths, Personalities from the world of culture and politicians from more than 60 countries, are participating.
