The Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Dusanka Majkic, announced in her intervention during the PAM UNESCO Inter-Parliamentary Forum of Science, Technology and Innovation for the Mediterranean region, held in Paris (9-10 November, 2010), that as from 1st January 2011, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania will travel freely in the EU countries following the Schengen zone visa liberalisation accorded to these two countries.
‘’The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean’s diplomatic contribution to the region is bearing its fruit’’, PAM Secretary General, Dr. Sergio Piazzi said. PAM, at the request of the Presidency Collegium of both Chambers of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, had included the issue on the agenda as a result of the PAM Bureau visit to Sarajevo in June 2010. Since then, the Assembly made every effort possible to support this process at the European Parliament and European Commission levels.
“This important step represents a victory for the citizens of both these Balkan countries, for PAM and the region in general’’ added Dr. Piazzi, who, on behalf of PAM congratulated also the EU for this decision.
The reform process of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Constitution is still high on the agenda of PAM, which together with the UN and the OSCEis working on the organisation of a high level international meeting, to be hosted in Malta in 2011, under the auspices of the Parliament, on the issue within the National context, as well as in the framework of progress in Mediterranean and EU integration.
