28 June 2024, Vienna – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), represented by Amb. Peter Schatzer, PAM’s Permanent Observer to the United Nations in Vienna, attended the inauguration of an artwork by Australian artist Fintan Magee at the United Nations Vienna International Centre. The event underscored the UN’s dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Summit of the Future, emphasizing elements such as fragility and peace through the power of art.
The mural, the largest in Vienna, was created in collaboration with the Calle Libre Street Art Festival and supported by Vienna-based UN organizations, the Host Country and Host City, the private sector, and the Global Compact Network Austria. The inauguration was attended by the Deputy Director General of the United Nations Office in Vienna, the Ambassador of Australia, sponsors, diplomatic corps, NGO representatives, and UN staff.
Et the event, Amb. Schatzer expressed PAM’s commitment to further cooperate with the United Nations and other international partners to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Assembly shall also actively participate in supporting the UN’s efforts to ensure a successful Summit of the Future, scheduled at UN Headquarters in New York in September 2024.
Looking ahead, PAM will continue to champion initiatives that integrate artistic and cultural elements into global peace and development efforts, fostering a more inclusive and collaborative international community. In this regard, PAM granted its auspices at the DAP Festival, an event celebrating dance and arts in Pietrasanta, Italy, from 23 June to 6 July 2024. Hon. Bergamini (Italy), PAM Rapporteur on Geopolitical and Security Developments, will address the festival, highlighting the Assembly’s commitment to the promotion of artistic expressions as tools for peace and development. //
