The Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), Hon. Mrs. Aleksandra Maletic represented PAM at the WPL Summit (Women Political Leaders) held in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 6-8 June 2018.
The WPL Summit, co-hosted by Seimas, the Parliament of Lithuania, brought together female Heads of State and Government, Ministers, Parliamentarians and Mayors from all over the world. The WPL Summit 2018 was held under the patronage of Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania, and in cooperation with the Council of Women World Leaders (CWWL).
The PAM delegate actively participated in several roundtables and thematic sessions. In her address at the session on the benefits of a gender sensitive parliament, Vice-President Maletic highlighted the role of parliamentary assemblies in the promotion conditions for better gender equality index.
Vice-President Maletic also addressed the Summit at the closing ceremony. In her statement, she highlighted that PAM has invested a lot in the role of women, especially the role in conflict resolution. “Such efforts are extremely important, because they represent the true voice of civil society which wants a lasting solution to the conflict, even when the tensions at the political level escalate to new highs”, she pointed out.
Maletic expressed that PAM is looking forward to establishing a more structured cooperation with Women Political Leaders.
