PAM offered Tunisian expertise on critical issues for the Mediterranean

Relations between Tunisia and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean were discussed during a meeting at the PAM Headquarters in Malta on 21 October 2010, between the new Ambassador of Tunisia to Malta and PAM Secretary General.

Tunisian Ambassador H.E. Abderrahmane Bel Hadj Ali paid a courtesy visit to PAM, as part of the regular meetings between PAM and the diplomatic representations of PAM countries in Malta, Geneva, and the United Nations, and to strengthen Tunisias role as a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. PAM Secretary General, Dr. Sergio Piazzi, welcomed H.E. Ambassador Bel Hadj who said that effective cooperation and communication between PAM and Tunisia are beneficial both on bilateral terms and for the Mediterranean region in general”.

During the meeting Dr Piazzi illustrated PAM activities and future events. The Tunisian Ambassador was particularly interested on issues related to Organised Crime and the dumping of toxic waste in the Mediterranean, topics of direct concern to Tunisia. To this effect H.E. Bel Hadj offered Tunisias full cooperation and said that his country would make available to PAM its finest experts on those critical issues of concern to the Mediterranean, such as the question of water resources and distribution.

Dr. Piazzi expressed his gratitude and that of the Assembly for the active role that the Tunisian parliamentarians and diplomats play in PAM and in its operative Committees. Their participation is not only a constant in all our major activities, but one that distinguishes itself for the valid contribution in all the debates and conclusions reached by our reports and resolutions, which are distributed to all the Mediterranean parliaments”. PAM Secretary General said.
