On 9 -10 March 2022, The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean opens its 16th Plenary Session in Dubai, generously hosted by the Federal National Council of the UAE. The presence of “120” participants representing parliaments, governments, governmental and civil organizations.
In his speech at the opening session, His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, welcomed the participants in the meeting stating that UAE was very keen to host the work of the 16th Assembly of the Mediterranean Parliament, he added: “we were keen to give this forum a generous patronage from the sponsor His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him” His Excellency valued the Assembly’s selection of the three topics of dialogue that express the joint responsibility towards analyzing the situation experienced by the Euro-Mediterranean and golf region, explain: “the extent of its impact and impact on the existing international situation, which makes us look forward to the results of this General Assembly being effective, positive and active.”
In his speech, Hon. Gennaro Migliore, President of the Mediterranean Parliament, said::”it is a great pleasure to welcome you all to the sixteenth plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, the first session to be held in attendance after the outbreak of the Corona pandemic in 2020.” He added that PAM will welcome two new members: the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, which have successfully and with a great deal of commitment completed the accession process in accordance with our rules and the previous Assembly resolution.
During his speech, His Excellency Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, said: “the organization’s efforts to confront the health challenges facing countries and peoples of the world, and the efforts of parliamentary institutions to support the directions of governments and countries in facing the Corona pandemic and its modifiers.”
His Excellency Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in a message to PAM, invited the delegates to prepare the International Migration Review Forum to take place in May 2022, and to contribute to the preparations to the Summit on Transforming Education. “Parliaments are vital in putting people at the centre of policy” and “only together can we build a more peaceful and equitable world “.
