Chalkidiki, Greece, 29 June, 2023 – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) participated in the 30th Anniversary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy (I.A.O) General Assembly. Hon. Hadzi Milorad Stosic, Head of Serbian Delegation to PAM, represented the Assembly on this occasion.
The main topic of the event was “30 Years of I.A.O.: Facing New Challenges. Before New Perspectives.” It addressed the role of interfaith dialogue in promoting peace.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Hon. Stosic shared the Assembly’s sadness over the recent human tragedy off the coast of Pylos, Greece, where a trawler with hundreds of migrants onboard capsized. The Mediterranean region and its vicinity, he added, is in the grip of instability and escalating violence notably in the Middle East, and a terrible war at its doorsteps affecting Ukraine and its people.
Much of this violence, he said, is linked to intolerance and the development of hatred in the form of xenophobia, racism, misogyny, islamophobia, anti-Semitism and anti-Christian sentiments which stand in the way of human fraternity and go against religious principles.
Hon Stosic stressed the importance of parliamentarians in promoting education, cooperation, and dialogue. PAM, he concluded, will remain committed to intercultural dialogue, peace, human fraternity, and tolerance.//
