On March 4, Sen. Irina Elisabeta Kovács (Romania), representing PAM and its President, Hon. Gennaro Migliore (Italy), addressed the “11th Conference of the Association of Senates, Shoora and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World”. The event took place in Rabat under the patronage of the House of Councillors of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The event saw the participation of high-level speakers coming from more than 31 countries from Africa, the Arab World, Europe and Latin America.
Sen. Kovács intervened during the session dedicated to “Trade and Economic Exchanges between Africa, the Arab World, Latin America and the Caribbean: Reality and Prospects”, where she had reiterated PAM’s position on the unprovoked and unjustified Russian aggression against Ukraine, while warning against the potentially devastating economic impacts of the current crisis.
‘Apart from the tragic humanitarian consequences, we are already seeing a spike in inflation, energy prices and a further disruption of the Global Value Chains’, she added, ‘with unpredictable effects on the long-term stability of the international financial system’.
In her remarks, Sen. Kovács also recalled the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting regional initiatives that can foster trade and financial cooperation, such as the establishment of an integrated Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Community of Renewable Energy.
Sen. Kovács concluded her intervention by stressing the urgent need to relaunch intra-regional investments and trade in the MENA region. In this context, she stated: ‘PAM will soon organize the first ever “Davos” of the Mediterranean, which will constitute an extraordinary opportunity for businesses and leaders to come along and share proposals on how to foster our regional economic integration’.
Le 4 mars, la Sénatrice Irina Elisabeta Kovács (Roumanie), représentant l’APM et son Président, l’honorable Gennaro Migliore (Italie), a pris la parole lors de la « 11ème Conférence de l’Association des Sénats, Shoora et Conseils équivalents en Afrique et dans le monde arabe ». L’événement a eu lieu à Rabat sous le patronage de la Chambre des Conseillers du Royaume du Maroc.
L’événement a vu la participation d’intervenants de haut niveau venant de plus de 30 pays d’Afrique, du monde arabe, d’Europe et d’Amérique latine.
La Sénatrice Kovács est intervenue lors de la Session consacrée aux « échanges commerciaux et économiques entre l’Afrique, le monde arabe, l’Amérique latine et les Caraïbes : Réalité et perspectives », où elle avait réitéré la position de l’APM sur l’agression russe non provoquée et injustifiée contre l’Ukraine, tout en mettant en garde contre les impacts économiques potentiellement dévastateurs de la crise sur les prix.
« Outre les conséquences humanitaires tragiques, nous constatons déjà une flambée de l’inflation, des prix de l’énergie et une nouvelle perturbation des chaînes de valeur mondiales », a-t-elle ajouté, « avec des effets imprévisibles sur la stabilité à long terme du système financier international ».
Dans ses remarques, la Sénatrice Kovács a également rappelé l’importance de la diplomatie parlementaire dans la promotion d’initiatives régionales susceptibles de favoriser le commerce et la coopération financière, telles que l’établissement d’une Communauté Euro-méditerranéenne et du Golfe intégrée pour les énergies renouvelables.
La Sénatrice Kovács a conclu son intervention en soulignant le besoin urgent de relancer les investissements et le commerce intra régionaux dans la région MENA. Dans ce contexte, elle a déclaré : «L’APM organisera bientôt le tout premier « Davos de la Méditerranée », qui constituera une occasion extraordinaire pour les entreprises et les dirigeants de venir partager des propositions sur la façon de favoriser notre intégration économique régionale ».
