22 November 2022, Fez, Kingdom of Morocco – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean participated in the 9th UNAOC Global Forum about “Towards an Alliance of Peace: Living Together as One Humanity”. On this occasion, PAM was represented by PAM President Emeritus Hon. Gennaro Migliore (Italy), Sen. Moulay Driss El Hassani Alaoui (Morocco) and Sen. Abdelkader El Kihal (Morocco).
Finding pathways to peace, unity and solidarity, rooted in mutual respect, human dignity and compassion have never been more urgent. The 9th Global Forum of UNAOC was organized into a youth forum and special sides-events to address many crossbeam challenging and global issues, with a special focus on Africa.
Hon. Migliore, in his intervention,recalled PAM’s support for UNAOC work and PAM’s belief in the importance of solidarity and interreligious, intercultural, and inter-civilizational dialogue in the pathway to durable Peace.
Hon. Migliore reiterated the crucial role of PAM Parliamentary Diplomacy in forging collective political will to prevent and solve conflicts. PAM’s objective consists in creating such space for peace and prosperity.
Hon. Migliore condemned the Russian aggression against Ukraine as the cause of “one of the most inhumane sufferings of recent times”, which has resulted in an acute global food and energy security crisis.
Hon. Migliore also recognized the dramatic impact of climate change not only on the global environment but also on demographic phenomena, such as mass migration, with a focus on the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
PAM is actively contributing to the debate through its participation in COP27 and the organization of PAM’s 1st “Economic Forum of the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions” in Marrakesh in early December, Hon. Migliore added.
Finally, Hon. Migliore evoked the importance of facing challenges through collective effort, goodwill, and “dialogue among people at all levels”. Specifically, parliamentarians, who play a crucial role in building bridges and widening the road to peace. //
