30 November 2022, Madrid – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean participated in the Mediterranean Women in Technology Network. The event was organized by Womenpreneur and the Secretariat of the UfM. PAM was represented by PAM Women Parliamentary Forum President, Hon. Joana Lima (Portugal).
The event was aimed at connecting female leaders across borders to create opportunities in the technological field for women and at providing role models for girls interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) careers.
The dialogue focused on sharing experience and know-how among stakeholders and women representatives on common topics – but with different regional and cultural backgrounds – with the objective of bridging the considerable gap in knowledge and capacity between EU and non-EU countries and strengthening transactional economic collaborations.
In her speech, Hon. Lima recalled the need for inclusive technologies and accessible education to combat discrimination and marginalization of women in an increasingly global and digital world.
Despite the slow progress in terms of gender equality goals, Hon. Lima shared data demonstrating that there still is too much gender injustice and inequality in the world, especially concerning education and access to the new technology sector.
In this regard, Hon. Lima highlighted the importance of training women in leadership and developing their entrepreneurial skills to fill the skills gap and facilitate the creation of new businesses and, consequently the generation of more jobs.
Hon. Lima in her conclusions reiterated the PAM Women Parliamentary Forum is committed to promoting digitalization and good governance, as fundamental tools to pursue justice, inclusion, and equality.//
