New York, USA, 10-20 July 2023 – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) participated in the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). The event, convened under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), focused on “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels”. Hon. Deborah Bergamini (Italy) represented PAM on this occasion.
During the mission, Hon. Bergamini also attended a number of important meetings, including the Commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is the treaty that established the ICC itself.
During the Forum, participants were able to further discuss the effective and inclusive recovery measures to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and explore actionable policy guidance for the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs at all levels.
The HLPF assessed the impacts of financial, energy, food, and humanitarian crises on the 2030 Agenda and contributed to the mid-term review of the implementation of the SDGs. In particular, the forum focused on policies and transformations to overcome crises towards accelerating the 2030 Agenda’s Goals.
The HLPF served as a key preparatory event for the SDG Summit – taking place during the UNGA week on 19 September 2023 – as it aimed at generating political momentum for the Summit.
PAM is committed to accelerating SDGs’ regional implementation plans, which must include the promotion of inclusive platforms for dialogue, and to support UN efforts towards its global Goals.//
