15 May 2024, Braga, Portugal – On the occasion of the PAM 18th Plenary Session, kindly hosted by the Portuguese Parliament in Braga, high-level Awardees of the PAM Award were presented the prestigious prize during the Opening Ceremony.
The PAM Award is annually conferred to individuals and institutions in recognition of their substantial efforts in advancing PAM’s mission and values across various domains in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
This year, high-level Laureates were awarded for their extraordinary commitment in delivering urgent and needed humanitarian aid; promoting political and diplomatic activities to restore peace and stability in conflict contexts; providing medical assistance to vulnerable communities, and implementing environmental protection initiatives.
Below are listed the high-level Awardees by category. A comprehensive list, which includes also organizations awarded, will be available in the Plenary Session Report.
PAM Prizes awarded for humanitarian merits:
- H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, as PAM Global Humanitarian Personality.
- His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, for the humanitarian assistance provided, in exceptionally difficult circumstances, to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.
- His Majesty King Mohammed VI King of Morocco, in recognition of the great services and valuable efforts delivered by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency.
PAM Prizes awarded for political and diplomatic activities:
- H.E. Mr. Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as Champion of Peace, in recognition of his steadfast dedication to advancing peace and stability in the Middle East.
- H.E. Mr. Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, for the decision to authorize and maintain a maritime corridor enabling large quantities of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
- H.E. Ms. Lolwah Bint Rashid Al-Khater, Minister of State for International Cooperation of the State of Qatar, for the exceptional diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to address the Gaza Strip – Middle East crisis.
- H.E. Mr. Martti Ahtisaari, former President of the Republic of Finland (posthumously), for his fierce lifetime commitment towards peace and stability
PAM Prizes awarded for medical assistance:
- H.E. Mr. Bajram Begaj, President of the Republic of Albania, in recognition of the exceptional medical assistance provided to Italy during the Covid-19 Pandemic.
- H.E. Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, in recognition of the exceptional solidarity shown by Algeria to neighbouring countries during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
- H.E. Mr. Guido Crosetto, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Italy, for the decision to deploy a military hospital ship, under very difficult circumstances, to provide very urgent medical assistance to children wounded in Gaza.
- The Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem of the Sovereign Order of Malta, for the remarkable efforts to guarantee health services to vulnerable women and children in situations of distress.
PAM Prizes awarded for environmental protection efforts:
- H.E. First Lady Emine Erdoğan of the Republic of Türkiye, for championing the implementation of the “Zero Waste Project” towards a cleaner and sustainable Türkiye.
- H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Yumaklı, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic Türkiye, for launching the “Breath for the Future” campaign addressing the impacts of climate change in Türkiye. //
