STATEMENT 

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE

PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

ON THE ESCALATION OF VILENCE IN TRIPOLI, LIBYA 

 

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean expresses its condemnation of the violence which has erupted in Tripoli in the last days and which jeopardises all efforts to stabilise the country. PAM is particularly worried by this sudden escalation, which is causing casualties and wounded among the civilian population. 

PAM reiterates its support and full commitment to the United Nations Action Plan for Libya and calls on all parties to cease all military action with immediate effect. 

Libyans must continue to work towards both parliamentary and presidential elections which should be held in a secure environment as soon as possible. PAM remains committed to assist national authorities in the process of national reconciliation and in capacity building of democratic institutions.
