PAM Statement on the 7.0-magnitude earthquake which hit the Aegean Sea off Greece and Turkey on 30 October 2020

A strong 7.0-magnitude earthquake, depth 21 km, hit the Aegean Sea off Greece and Turkey on 30 October 2020 at 11:51 UTC, with the epicentre in the sea between Izmir and Samos.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean extends its condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and parliaments of Turkey and Greece, and wishes those injured a speedy recovery. 

Following this catastrophic event, PAM expresses its solidarity to both countries and, recalling the important Protocol for disaster relief cooperation signed between Greece and Turkey in November 2001, calls for reinforced solidarity, cooperation and mutual support in the Mediterranean region.
