PAM Statement Over the Continuing Violence in East Jerusalem

PAM delegates share the concerns expressed last night by the UN Secretary General, international and regional organizations, and religious leaders over the continuing violence in East Jerusalem, as well as the possible evictions of Palestinian families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighborhoods.

PAM echoes the call of the international community for full compliance with UN Security Council resolutions and international humanitarian and human rights law.

PAM is further calling for full restraint from the use of force and for ensuring the respect of the rights of Palestinian people for peaceful assembly and access to holy sites.

PAM reiterates its position that a Two-State solution is the only way for both peoples, Israelis and Palestinians, to achieve their legitimate aspirations to govern themselves, to live side by side within safe and recognized borders, in peace and security: the State of Israel and the independent State of Palestine, in accordance with the relevant international resolutions.

PAM is genuinely committed to continue to work through its parliamentary diplomacy network, and in cooperation with the international community, to support all initiatives aimed at promoting the rule of law and the immediate political resolution to the present situation.
