A high level PAM delegation is today (23 June, 2010) in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a series of official meetings with institutional and political leaders in Sarajevo. Members of the PAM Bureau and from parliamentary delegations of Western Balkan countries, members of PAM, have joined the mission co-organised by the PAM Secretariat in collaboration with the Bosnian Parliament.
The visit is taking place following a request from the United Nations, during the visit of PAM Bureau to the UN Secretary General in New York, on 30 September 2009. On that occasion, the UN urged PAM to support national and international initiatives to ensure political stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Subsequently the PAM Bureau decided to take this opportunity to meet the Speakers of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina and political leaders in Sarajevo.
Meetings will be held during the day with the Speakers of both Chambers of the Parliament, as well as with the European Union Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Discussions will take place with Ms. Dusanka Majkic, Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples, Mr. Marin Vukoja, Secretary General of the House of Peoples, Ms. Branka Todorovic, Secretary General of the House of Representatives, Mr. Goran Spiric, advisor to Ms. Dusanka Majkic and Mr. Sefik Dzaferovic, Chairman of the Constitutional-Law Committee of the House of Representatives.
Commenting on the importance of the visit, PAM Secretary General, Dr. Sergio Piazzi said: “The purpose of the visit is to listen to their views on the present status of discussions about the different projects and processes of the constitutional reform, and most importantly, to seek their advice on how our regional Assembly can support the efforts they are undertaking to ensure a peaceful and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina for all its inhabitants”.
The PAM delegation will proceed to Belgrade, where the Bureau and the 3 Standing Committees, will be holding their concluding debates for 2010, prior to the PAM Plenary Session to be held on 28-30 October, in Rabat, Morocco on the invitation of the Moroccan Parliament.
