15 November 2024– Hon. Giulio Centemero (Italy), PAM Vice-President and President of the 2nd Standing Committee, has been elected in the Steering Committee on Climate Finance of the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Established in 2000, the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and IMF provides a platform for parliamentarians from over 140 countries to advocate for enhanced accountability and transparency within International Financial Institutions and multilateral development financing. The Network engages legislators in addressing key development and macroeconomic challenges both within their home countries and internationally. Governed by a Board elected by its members, the Network operates as an independent, non-governmental organization with its secretariat based in Paris. Membership is open and free of charge to all elected parliamentarians holding a current mandate, with members representing themselves and their constituents, rather than their governments or parliaments.
Hon. Centemero expressed gratitude and pride, highlighting that the appointment provides a critical opportunity to address key issues of national and regional significance, particularly in the area of climate financing, while focusing on environmental challenges.
The World Bank, the IMF and their Parliamentary Network, represent key partner for PAM. Every year, the Assembly contributes to the World Bank and IMF Spring and Annual Meetings, while the Washington institutions actively participate in the PAM Plenary Sessions and PAM Economic Fora for the Euro-Mediterranean Region and Gulf.
PAM entertains close collaboration with the World Bank and IMF to advance institutional reforms that align with the evolving global economic landscape, while also strengthening its partnership with their Parliamentary Network.//
