The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) is organizing in cooperation with the World Trade Organization (WTO), a joint high-level parliamentary conference on Investments and Trade Facilitation in the Western Balkans and the broader Euro-Mediterranean region.

The event, hosted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, will be held on 12-13 July 2018, in Belgrade and it is the second meeting jointly organized by PAM and WTO, following that of October 2017, held in Rabat, Morocco, which had as its main focus the MENA region.

Based on the same format of the Rabat event, the Belgrade meeting will tackle specific issues relevant to South East Europe, a geopolitical area which has a high relevance for the whole Euro-Mediterranean region due to its strategic position. PAM is organizing the conference also in order to respond to a specific request by the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, who indicated the Western Balkans as a region that needs further integration in order to boost trade, sustainable development and economic growth at large.

The parliamentary conference will be held over 2 days and will feature speakers from the major international organizations with a specific mandate on the topic of the event, such as the European Commission, UNCTAD, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the OECD, the World Bank, the European Investment Bank and the International Monetary Fund, among others.

Over 100 representatives of national and regional parliamentary delegations from PAM members, associate countries and organizations, the European Parliament, and senior officials from the Government of Serbia will attend the event.

Participants will engage in a debate that will result in a set of recommendations to be distributed to all PAM member parliaments and partners as proposals for national legislation, as per PAM consolidated procedures.
