Qatar appreciates PAM’s role in the Mediterranean

The Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Malta, H.E. Ali Saad A. Al-Kharji, paid a courtesy visit to the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, where he was welcomed by the PAM Secretary General, Amb. Sergio Piazzi.

A wide ranging meeting was held, during which the PAM Secretary General shared with the Qatari Ambassador, the outcome of the latest PAM missions to Cairo and Moscow.

Other current topics discussed covered the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Process, the conflict in Syria and the transition processes in the post Arab Spring countries.

The need for a political solution to the Syrian crisis, economic assistance to the countries in transition and further support to the peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine were highlighted by both the PAM Secretary General and the Qatari Ambassador. On his part, the latter also expressed the full support by the Qatari authorities to the important role that PAM is playing as a platform for dialogue between all parties and stakeholders involved in the various open issues in the Mediterranean region. Particular attention was also paid to the role of the financial and banking sectors, institutions that carry weight and responsibilities in the development of the regional economy.

Amb. Piazzi and Amb. Al-Kharji, also discussed how to further strengthen the relations between PAM and Qatar, following the official visit by PAM President to Doha in 2009, and the participation of Qatari diplomats and parliamentarians to several PAM events.
