The VI Meeting of the three Standing Committees of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean continued today at the Palazzo dei Normanni, in Palermo, in preparation for the VI PAM Plenary Session to be held tomorrow 29 October, 2011.
During today’s session the Rapportuers of the 3rd Standing Committee on Dialogue among Cultures and Civilisations & Human Rights, presented their Reports and Resolutions and were discussed by the parliamentarians representing the member states of the Assembly. The debate was chaired by Hon. Tevfik Ziyaeddin Abkulut (Turkey), PAM Vice President and President of the 3rd Standing Committee.
During the day the following Reports and Resolutions were presented and discussed:
Report on the activities of the PAM Panel on External Trade and Investments in the Mediterranean – Hon. Mohammad Zureiqat (Jordan), presentation carried from the previous day.
Special Task Force on Gender; Report on “Domestic Violence” presented by Hon. Maria Conceicao Pereira (Portugal)
Special Task Force on Migration; Report on “Migrations” prepared by Hon. Tasos Mitsopoulos (Cypros) and presented by Hon. Aristos Damianou (Cyprus)
The presentations were followed by a debate among the parliamentarians who contributed towards the final documents to be presented for adoption by the Plenary Session of the Assembly on Saturday 29 October 2011. At the end of the works of the 3rd Standing Committee, the PAM Bureau members held their 18th meeting while the South Geo-political Group met to choose the candidate for the Presidency of PAM for the remaining year of the 2011-2012 biennium. The candidate will be presented tomorrow at the Plenary Session and a vote will be taken. The incumbert, H.E. Abdelwahad Radi (Morocco) has completed his term of Office.
