The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean expresses its concern at this particular juncture of high tension and uncertainty in Egypt, and reiterates the appeal for calm, restraint, dialogue and non-violence.
PAM is closely following developments in the country and urges a rapid return to the democratic process through free presidential and parliamentary elections, in order to reinforce civilian rule in accordance with principles of democracy.
PAM calls on all leaders in Egypt to engage in a national dialogue where the aspirations of all the Egyptian population are taken into consideration.
Preservation of fundamental rights, including freedom of speech and assembly remain of vital importance to move forward and guarantee the much needed stability to the country and its people.
