Statement by the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean
on reports of Israeli air strike in Syria
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean expresses its deep concern over the unwarranted possible escalation of instability in the Middle East following reports of air strikes on ammunition depots in Syrian territory by the Israeli Air Force.
The situation in Syria, which has so far claimed close to 80 thousand lives, and displaced over a million refugees, must not be further exacerbated. PAM calls on all sides to act with maximum responsibility and restraint in order to avoid the opening of new theatres of conflict.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean calls also on all national parliamentarians of the region, and particularly in the countries involved, to actively engage into a far reaching debate aimed at highlighting the short and long term consequences of a new confrontation scenario that would ultimately only damage the citizens and the aspirations of the young generations for a peaceful future.
Furthermore, PAM, as an Observer to the UN General Assembly, calls all concerned for the respect for national sovereignty and adherence to all relevant Security Council resolutions.
