Statement by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean on the Attack at the Turkish-Syrian border

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean reiterates its condemnation of the use of violence against civilians following the attack at the Cilvegozu border crossing between Turkey and Syria which caused the death of both Turkish and Syrian nationals.

PAM calls on all parties to respect the obligations under international humanitarian law, to refrain from using violence and to seriously work towards a political solution.

Furthermore, all efforts must be made to avoid the spillover of the Syrian crisis to neighbouring countries, since this represents a threat to peace and security in the region.

The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, on behalf of all its members, expresses his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a prompt recovery to the injured.
