Statement by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean on the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean condemns unreservedly the killing of the US Ambassador in Libya and three other American officials following the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi.

PAM expresses, on behalf of its members, its deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and the US authorities, and calls on the Libyan authorities to bring to justice the perpetrators of such a despicable attack.

PAM insists that reason should always prevail and Libya, in this particular and historical moment of transition, is expected, through its highest institutions, to assert the principle of the rule of law. Throughout this highly demanding process, PAM, together with all other international organizations, will continue to guarantee its full support to any action that will contribute to establish those pillars leading towards a more democratic country, for which the people of Libya have sacrificed their own lives.
