The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) categorically condemns the bomb attacks in Damascus that left dozens of casualties and hundreds of injured innocent civilians.
PAM reiterates its position against all violent acts targeting civilians regardless of the perpetrators. Day after day the situation in Syria is becoming more intolerable and the fratricide bloodbath devastating the Syrian population must stop. The international community cannot procrastinate any longer and a firm commitment through all possible diplomatic and political channels should be exercised in order to achieve a peaceful solution to the hostilities in the shortest possible time.
PAM continues to follow closely and with apprehension the developments in Syria, and in its endeavour to help in diffusing the escalating tension, the Secretariat has been in regular contact with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, the Presidents of the Parliaments of Lebanon and Palestinian National Authority, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, as well as the Joint Special Envoy of the UN-LAS on the Syrian crisis, to facilitate dialogue and humanitarian assistance.
The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, on behalf of all its members, expresses his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a prompt recovery to the injured.
