Statement by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean on the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), while welcoming the commitment by Israel and the Hamas to respect the ceasefire agreement, urges both sides to renounce to any further military actions, and open a new chapter of dialogue and negotiations.

The Assembly commends the leading role played by Egypt, and in particular the President of the Republic, H.E. Mohammed Morsi, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mohamed Kamel Amr, for their immediate intervention, who together with the participation of all the international community, including PAM, managed to secure a truce, notwithstanding the difficult situation and the escalation of hostilities.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean wishes to reiterate its support to the most equitable and lasting solution for both Israeli and Palestinian populations, and will continue to perform its mandate, through the tools at its disposal at the parliamentary and diplomatic level, regionally and globally, in order to achieve the Two State political framework, within which both States and their respective citizens, will be able to prosper, and together with the rest of the regions’ nations, participate in a future of collective peace, stability and security.
