Statement by the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean on
the elections in Libya for the
Constitutional Assembly
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) welcomes the outcome of the voting process in Libya for the establishment of the Constitutional Drafting Assembly which will write the country’s first democratic constitution.
PAM is particularly engaged in Libya’s process towards the achievement of a solid framework based on the rule of law and democratic principles, where the citizens can express their vision for the future and participate in its evolution.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean is aware of the difficulties and the issues that have to be surmounted and unraveled, yet the Assembly is confident that a sense of political and social maturity will prevail for the benefit of all the Libyan people. The Assembly also condemns those incidents that tried to hamper the right of every citizen to a smooth voting process.
PAM reiterates and confirms its support to the elected Constitutional Drafting Assembly, and is ready to fulfill its mission in assisting any constructive initiative aimed at securing peace and stability in the Mediterranean region.
