Statement
by the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean
on the terrorist attack in Istanbul
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) expresses its utter shock at the heinous gun and bomb attack on Istanbul’s Ataturk international airport, which has killed 36 people and injured more than 140 others. While condemning in the strongest terms the terrorist attack, PAM sincerely offers its profound condolences to the victims, families and the Authorities and Parliament of Turkey.
As we have regretfully experienced in the last few months and days, terrorist attacks associated with the so called and self-proclaimed Islamic State are increasingly claiming new victims across multiple continents. Perhaps it is becoming clear that it is not an issue related to a clash between civilisations and religions, but rather a stint, supported by an occult group of insane people, into a predefined strategy to spread globally the effects of chaos and destabilization, through violence and hatred.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean reiterates the need for immediate and increased collective efforts by the international community to act swiftly and take the necessary measures in the global fight against the threat of terrorism which is undermining peace and stability worldwide.
PAM will continue to work through its parliamentary diplomacy network, and in cooperation with the UN Security Council, to support all initiatives aimed at promoting the rule of law and the respect of UN resolutions and recommendations to counter at its roots the politics of terrorism, which by now should have exceeded all possible limits of civilized tolerance.
