The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) condemns the terrorist attack targeting the Libyan High National Electoral Commission (HNEC) Headquarters in Tripoli.
PAM takes the opportunity to underline the importance of the HNEC’s role in the development of the institutions in Libya for a democratic future. The governance of the country will depend on free elections with the participation of all citizens.
PAM reiterates its firm support to the UN mediation process and efforts by the Special Representative Ghassan Salamé to forge a lasting solution to the crisis in Libya, including in the framework of the Libya Quartet together with the African Union and the League of Arab States.
In this framework PAM will continue to engage at the regional and global level with all stakeholders so that Libya is given all the necessary assistance in forging a better future and a better country.
Finally PAM expresses its condolences to the Libyan Authorities, the families of the victims and wishes a prompt recovery to those injured.
