Statement by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean on the terrorist attack in Vienna, Austria

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) expresses its utter shock at the heinous terrorist attack on Vienna that took place Monday 02 November, and which killed at least three people and injured about 15 others. While condemning in the strongest terms the terrorist attack, PAM sincerely offers its profound condolences to the victims, families and the Authorities and Parliament of Austria.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean reiterates the need for immediate and increased collective efforts by the international community to act swiftly and take the necessary measures in the global fight against the threat of terrorism, which is undermining peace and security worldwide.

While condemning once again in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks, the Assembly once again calls on all national and international institutions to challenge, as a united front, those elements of evil who are sowing the seeds of hatred and confrontation.

PAM will continue to work through its parliamentary diplomacy network, and in cooperation with the UN Security Council, to support all initiatives aimed at promoting the rule of law and UN resolutions to counter at its roots the strategies of terrorism.
