PAM Election Observation Mission to Tunisia

21 - 23 November 2023, Baku, Azerbaijan - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) was invited to attend and contribute to the 15th Anniversary of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA).

Hon. Atay Uslu, Head of the Turkish Delegation to PAM, represented the Assembly, and intervened during the General Debate, entitled “Experience of the Past, Today’s Realities and Future Prospects for TURKPA”.

In his speech, Hon. Uslu stressed the important role played by parliaments in these difficult times, to open and keep functioning channels of communication and cooperation, when relations at the governmental level are suspended. In this perspective, PAM represents a unique forum, where through the instrument of parliamentary diplomacy, politicians from, inter alia, Israel, Palestine, Türkiye, Cyprus, Lebanon, and Syria, continue to meet around the same table, with equal right to openly discuss and engage in concrete exchanges on real issues of common concern.

PAM and TURKPA share many interests, and will continue to enhance their partnership, in order, among others, to strengthening regional economy, food security and energy resilience, and fighting against terrorism threats.

The event was attended by parliamentary delegations from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as senior officials and representatives of international parliaments and organizations, and the diplomatic corps.//
