PAM participates in the 2024 Antalya Diplomacy Forum

1-3 March 2024, Antalya, Türkiye – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) participated in the 2024 Antalya Diplomacy Forum, organized by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs , under the auspices of H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. PAM was represented by Hon. Atay Uslu, Head of the Turkish delegation to PAM.

 

Marking its third edition, the event gathered several Head of States and Governments, Ministers, diplomats, high-level representatives of the United Nations, and other international and regional organizations, as well as private sector, academia, and civil society, under the theme “Advancing Diplomacy in Times of Turmoil”.

 

The Forum represented a unique opportunity to discuss the most recent issues that shape global and regional agendas, as well as those innovative tools to promote the role of diplomacy, even in the current context of unprecedented humanitarian crises and global confrontation. Among the topics of the working sessions were: ongoing instability; growing terrorist and criminal threats; irregular migration flows and migrant smuggling; rise of xenophobia and Islamophobia; impacts of AI and innovative technologies on society; climate change; natural disasters; and widening socioeconomic gaps.

 

All participants highlighted the importance of reestablish trust and confidence in the multilateral system of governance, in order to provide the international community with effective and up-to-date instruments to address common security challenges. PAM is fully supporting and contributing to the preparatory work of the UN and other relevant international organizations in shaping the UN Summit of the Future, which will take place in New York next September.. //
